HOW TO USE
First, place the vanilla pod flat on a cutting board and hold one end firmly. Using a sharp knife, carefully slice it lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Gently open the pod with your fingers to expose the inside. Then, use the back (dull side) of the knife to scrape out the tiny black seeds. These are the vanilla seeds that you add to your recipe. You can still use the scraped pod to infuse flavor into milk, cream, or sugar. Just simmer it gently or store it in a jar of sugar to make vanilla sugar.
